"LET'S GO SKYDIVING!"

view all

  • Nevada Desert

View of the Nevada desert while under canopy over Skydive Mesquite.

  • Chambersburg DZ

View of Chambersburg Airport and DZ while under my Triathlon-135 canopy.

  • Quincy Airport

This aerial photo was taken in free-fall from about 6,000 feet altitude while at the World Free-Fall Convention in Quincy, IL, August, 2001. (Newcomer photo)

  • Pitts stunt biplane skydive

Here I am doing a skydive (#133) from a Pitts aerobatic biplane flying between 125-130 mph at about 5,000' altitude. The plane is up-side-down in the middle of a "barrel-roll" and I am hanging from the top of the upper wing---quite an exhilarating experience! The Quincy Airport is barely visible in the background just above my left knee. This photo was taken by the stunt pilot at the 2001 World Free Fall Convention in Quincy, Illinois.

  • Cream Pie in the Face

Here's the award after 100 skydives at the Maytown Sport Parachute Club: cream pie in the face! Thanks to "Bucky" for not getting any on my jacket.

  • More Cream Pie

    A very memorable experience!

  • Three Generations Make Tandem Skydives

Three generations of women from the same family made tandem skydives on the same day at the Maytown Sport Parachute Club on June 20, 2001. Front row: Jana Schaeffer (mother), Marcilene Schaeffer (daughter), and Valerie Maginnis (grandmother); back row: tandem masters Mike Kauffman and Mike McCauley. (Photo by Terry Ross)

  • DLN Freefall3.jpg

Freefalling at about 120 mph out of 8,000+ feet...WHOOOOOOOSHHHHHHH!

  • 1DLN Freefall2.jpg

Completing a front loop at about 5,500 feet altitude. Susquehanna River is visible in lower right corner of picture.

  • theclub.jpg

Where I skydive, The Maytown Sport Parachute Club.

  • 1Cessna.jpg

The aircraft we use for getting up to altitude...the Cessna 182 can carry four skydivers and the pilot. You won't find a "First Class" section in this bucket of bolts.

  • packing parachutes A.jpg

Packing the parachute is one of the least enjoyed but most carefully performed necessities of the sport of skydiving.

  • packing chutes B.jpg

Parachute packing is done under a shaded canopy in the summer to minimize exposure of the parachute material to direct sunlight which has a deleterious effect on nylon.

  • jump plane takeoff.jpg

Jump plane at 20 - 30 feet altitude...everyone's thinking of the view from "10 grand"!

  • descent1.jpg

About 300 feet altitude...getting ready for final approach.

  • analysis.jpg

What makes us want to do this? Excitement! Exhilaration! Fun!

"You have to find something that you love enough to be able to take risks, jump over hurdles and break through the brick walls that are always going to be placed in front of you. If you don't have that kind of feeling for what it is you're doing, you'll stop at the first giant hurdle." --George Lucas, cinematographer
